Eastern Contractors Association spent the day at the Albany International Airport delivering more than 230 turkeys to TSA Officers and Air Traffic Controllers as a thank you for their dedication to maintaining safety at our airport and in the sky.
"We've watched these employees continue to show up for work these past four weeks without receiving pay and wanted to show our support for what they are doing," said Todd Helfrich, ECA's President and CEO. "We felt this was one way to show our appreciation and to help the employees and their families get through this difficult time.
Dubbed "Operation Gobble-Gobble" by staff, ECA also supplied 5 lb. bags of potatoes and boxes of stuffing to go along with the turkeys, providing workers with a full meal to take home to their families.
Along with the contribution from the association, several member firms also donated additional dollars and manpower to make today's event happen. We would like to thank the following firms for their contributions: A.M. Contracting, LLC; A.O.W. Associates, Inc.; Burt Crane and Rigging; Callanan Industries, Inc.; Crawford Door & Window Sales (Pella Windows and Doors) ; J.J. Curran & Son, Inc.; Duncan & Cahill, Inc.; Sam Greco Construction, Inc.; Jersen Construction Group; MLB Construction Services, LLC; J.H. Maloy, Inc; Marinello Construction Co., Inc.; Mid-State Industries, LTD; RBM Guardian Fire Protection, Inc.; Schaap Moving & Storage; TEC Protective Coatings, Inc.; and V. Zappala & Co., Inc.
"This idea all came together within just the past few days and I am proud at how quickly our members volunteered their support to make this happen," Helfrich added. "There wasn't a single hesitation, as everyone jumped at the chance to assist in this effort."
Coincidentally, the United Way of the Greater Capital District announced today the ability to donate money to them, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to purchase gift cards to give to airport employees and to support regional residents impacted by the federal shutdown. Because of the generous contributions from our members, we more than covered the cost of the turkeys, potatoes and stuffing, which allowed us to announce at the United Way press conference an additional $2,500 pledge on behalf of ECA's members.
If you would also like to be a part of our donation to the United Way, send a check to us (6 Airline Drive, Albany, NY 12205) and we will add it to our initial pledged contribution. You can also donate directly to the United Way online at www.unitedwaygcr.org/shutdown or by texting SHUTDOWN to 313131. The United Way will utilize funds raised to assist federal employees as needs arise, with 100% of the monies going to local regional residents.
We also had some leftover food items and donated the remaining turkeys and sides to the Capital District City Mission and the City Mission of Schenectady.
It was a great day to be a part of the Association and we are so proud of our members efforts to help the community and our neighbors. THANK YOU!
